Costa Ricans from a small town are in mourning after a celebrity crocodile passed away.

The 60-year-old croc, named Pocho, was part of a double act with trainer Gilberto Shedden which was well known in Squirres and helped put the town on the tourism map.

Hundreds of locals attended a memorial ceremony for the beast, with some even shedding a tear as he was driven down the street with mourners singing songs in his honour.

Pocho's body is now set to be embalmed and put on display in the local museum, if Gilberto gives his blessing.
