The Nigerian government is assuring people that a phone call will not kill them.

Ministers made the announcement after a text message circulated around the African country warning people if they answer mobile phone calls from the number 09141, they could die.

The Nigerian Communications Commission explained it is "unimaginable that somebody will die while receiving a call".

And Reuben Muoka, spokesman for the commission, said: "It is only very gullible people that will believe such a rumour."
