Wrong hotel? No, wrong hemisphere

A South African couple on holiday accidentally booked a hotel in Britain after mistaking it for New Zealand.

Michael and Sunette Adendorff reserved a room in the £90-a-night Majestic Hotel in Eastbourne, which boasted "splendid views" of the Sussex town's pier, but they had been driving around Eastbourne, New Zealand - which doesn't even have a hotel - looking for their bed for the night.

The couple realised their error when they went into a local store to ask for directions.

Shop assistant Linda Burke told the Dominion Post newspaper: "They just walked in and asked me where Royal Parade was, with the Majestic Hotel.

"I said: Oh no, there's no hotel here. I looked at it and said: That's in the UK, that's in England."
