Shell Oil: North Sea leak has been stopped
The Shell Oil Company has announced it has stopped a major oil leak in the North Sea.
More than 200 tonnes of oil have entered the sea 180 kilometres off the coast of Scotland since a ruptured pipe began leaking more than a week ago.
The company is now using specialised oil-spill response equipment and dispersants to deal with the four square miles of oil which remains in the water.
Surveys of bird and marine life by air surveillance will also be conducted.
