The US state of Pennsylvania is reportedly set to fine people $120 (€83.42) for texting while walking.

The move is believed to be part of the Give Respect-Get Respect campaign in Philadelphia which is aiming to clamp down on "distracted drivers, cyclists and pedestrians".

Philadelphia's Deputy Mayor Cutter said: "Texting while walking is not illegal, but it is dangerous.

"Pedestrians may be reminded to be more aware of their surroundings; however, there are no citations issued by the PPD for texting while walking."

Rexburg in Idaho already issues $50 (€34.75) fines to people who text while crossing the street.
