One person was reported killed and 10 more taken to hospital after a sports stadium roof collapsed during off-season construction work in the Dutch town of Enschede.

Peter den Oudsten, the town’s mayor, says a total of 14 people were injured when the roof at the southern end of the FC Twente stadium collapsed around midday.

Three people were treated at the scene.

Initial reports said people were trapped in the wreckage.

The cause of the collapse was not immediately known.

FC Twente is one of Holland’s top football teams.
