Three US citizens infected with European E.coli bacteria

It has been confirmed that three people in the US have been infected with the European E.coli bacteria.

Health officials in the UK say three British citizens have also been infected.

Scientists believe they are dealing with a new mutant strain of the bacteria, which has already killed 18 people across Europe.

The source of the bacteria remains a mystery but Doctor Dilys Morgan says people in Ireland and the UK shouldn't panic

"We are sure that at present that food item is not here, but we are remaining vigilant so we would pick up any cases as soon as they may happen," she said.
