i-Price to pay

A Chinese teenager sold one of his kidneys to buy an iPad 2.

The 17-year-old boy, identified only by his surname ‘Zheng’, was so desperate to get his hands on one of the Apple gadgets he sold the organ for €2,264.

Trading organs for cash on the black market in China is relatively common, and the country has seen a huge rise in “transplant tourists”.

Zheng suffered complications after the surgery and was discharged from hospital three days later – but only told his horrified mother what he had done when he arrived home with the iPad and a new laptop.

He said: “I wanted to buy an iPad 2 but I didn’t have the money. I found an advert online from an agency which said they would buy one of my kidneys.”
