Resentencing date set for Conrad Black
The resentencing of former media mogul Conrad Black on two remaining fraud convictions remains on track for next month.
Black appeared yesterday for a 10-minute hearing in federal court in Chicago.
An appeals court reversed two of the ex-Daily Telegraph owner's convictions last year, citing a US Supreme Court ruling curtailing the "honest services" laws used to convict him of defrauding investors in Hollinger International Inc.
The court upheld one conviction for fraud and one for obstruction of justice. US District Judge Amy St Eve confirmed yesterday that she would resentence Black on June 24.
Black has asked the US Supreme Court to hear an appeal on the two remaining charges. It has not said whether it will hear the case.
Black's empire once included the Chicago Sun-Times, the Telegraph and smaller papers across the US and Canada.
