Promising footballer signs club contract - aged 1

A one-year-old Dutch boy has been signed by a professional football team.

Baerke van der Meij was offered a "symbolic" 10-year contract with Venlose Voetbal Vereniging (VVV) after his father posted a video of him kicking balls into his toy box.

The tot is now set to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather, who once played for the same team.

A spokesperson for VVV said: "The toddler's favourite position has not yet been determined.

"However, we can speak of a right-footed player with a very good kicking technique, perseverance and, importantly: football genes via his grandfather."
