Fifteen hurt in head-on train crash

Fifteen people were injured in a head-on crash between a passenger train and a service train carrying railway workers outside the Bulgarian capital today, officials said.

The Health Ministry said ambulances transported the injured passengers and the two train engineers to hospitals in nearby Sofia.

Railway company director Pencho Popov said an international passenger train travelling from Serbia to Turkey collided with the service train about 25 miles (40km) west of Sofia.

He said the train company was investigating the cause of the crash.
