Miliband announces leadership intentions

David Miliband is the first candidate to throw his hat into the ring for the Labour leadership in Britain.

The 44-year-old former British Foreign Secretary was a close ally of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

Alan Johnson and Harriet Harman have ruled themselves out of the running.

Ed Balls and Jon Cruddas have yet to declare their intentions.

Mr Miliband said he will officially launch his bid to be a candidate next week.
