A teenager has been charged in connection with a brawl in a Kilkenny club where English right-wing activist Tommy Robinson is alleged to have been attacked.
The teenager was one of two arrested after a fight broke out at The Hub in Cillín Hill. He appeared in court in Clonmel on Sunday afternoon.
The other man who was arrested, who is in his 20s, is being held at a garda station.
They are both understood to have attended what was described beforehand as a “boxing-style” event headlined by two rappers where one man’s injuries led to him being brought to hospital.
It had been organised by an influencer called Harrison Sullivan, who featured in Louis Theroux’s Inside the Manosphere Netflix documentary.
It is not immediately clear what Robinson was doing at the event, but after one of the fighters had finished his fight, he is seen getting out of the ring and appears to fall in the direction of where Robinson was sitting.
Online videos show Robinson then getting up into the ring, and he is seen walking around holding up a book and waving it in front of members of the audience.
This was before the fighter who fell in his direction was brought back to the ring for what was described as a “face off”.
The fighter, who appeared dazed and wide-eyed after the incident, later posted a video online - seen by the Irish Examiner - in which he said all he was doing was following a “script”.
His comment appears to suggest his fall from the ring might have been part of a publicity stunt.
A garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí attended the scene of a number of incidents on Saturday at approximately 9pm at a premises on the Dublin Road, Kilkenny.
“One male, aged in his 30s, was assaulted and removed from the scene to St. Luke’s Hospital.
“A man, aged in his 20s, was arrested and is currently detained under Section 4 at a Garda station in the South East.
“A second male, an adult in his teens, was arrested for violent disorder and has since been charged."
They added that investigations are ongoing.
