Eight killed in Baghdad car bomb

Eight people were killed today when a car bomb exploded near a pair of off licence stores in south-west Baghdad, Iraqi medical and police officials said.

The blast also injured 20 people, according to a medical official at Yarmouk Hospital.

Both the police and medical officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to speak with the media.

While there has been a decline of violence in past years, low-level attacks do continue across Iraq and especially in the capital Baghdad.
