Iran blames the UK for street protests

Iran accused Britain of helping stir up unrest that has led to deadly street clashes in the country and summoned its ambassador to complain today.

The move by the Foreign Ministry added to growing tensions between Iran and the West, which is threatening to impose tough new sanctions over its suspect nuclear programme and has criticised the violent crackdown on anti-government protesters in Tehran.
