Two killed in plane crash as pilot escapes

Police say two people are dead after their small plane crashed into Hamburg harbour this afternoon.

Officials say the pilot of the Cessna 206 seaplane managed to get out of the aircraft after it crashed in the water, but his passengers – a couple in their 50s from near Bremen – were both killed.

Police say the plane was on a harbour tour and crashed as it tried to land on the water.

Investigators said it was not yet clear whether the pilot was coming in for a normal landing or whether he had to make an emergency landing.
