Firefighters tackle blaze in central London
A large fire broke out in a historic area of central London today.
London Fire Brigade said eight fire engines were sent to the blaze in an office block in Bream's Buildings, Chancery Lane, at about 3.40pm.
A spokesman said there were no immediate reports of any people being trapped in the fire.
One eyewitness described a “huge black plume of smoke” rising into the sky as fire engines rushed to the scene.
Police cordoned off Chancery Lane at the junction with Fleet Street and stopped traffic from entering.
London Fire Brigade said the fifth floor and roof of the building were alight.
A Ministry of Justice spokesman said the blaze was in a building which houses the Asylum and Immigration Tribunal.
The spokesman said all tribunal staff had been safely evacuated.
