New Zealand’s prime minister said troops will remain in Afghanistan until at least September 2010, extending by another year a troop commitment that began in 2001.

Some 140 New Zealand soldiers currently make up a provincial reconstruction team working to provide security and development aid in Bamiyan province, northeast of the capital, Kabul.
