Police make arrests over thefts at 'Beckingham Palace'

Two housekeepers who worked at the Beckhams’ Hertfordshire mansion were arrested for allegedly selling their stolen possessions online, reports said.

British police confirmed that a 56-year-old woman and a 55-year-old man, both from Essex, were arrested in relation to a theft from a private property in the area.

Press reports said items belonging to former England captain David Beckham and his pop singer wife were taken from their Rowneybury House mansion and then sold on internet auction website, eBay, to the highest bidders.

A spokesman for Hertfordshire Police said: “Police are currently investigating an allegation of theft from a private address in Hertfordshire.

“The theft was reported to police at 4.45pm on Friday October 10.

“A 56-year-old woman from Essex and a 55-year-old man also from Essex have been arrested in connection with this incident and are currently on police bail.”

“They are due to return to Hoddesdon police station on November 22.”

A spokesman for eBay said: “We are working with Hertfordshire Police to establish the facts surrounding this alleged theft.

“If it transpires that our site was being used to list stolen goods then we will work with the police to press for the harshest penalties.”

The multi-million pound, Grade II listed mansion in Sawbridgeworth, near Bishop’s Stortford, was dubbed “Beckingham Palace” when the Beckhams moved in.
