Bush pleas for unity to tackle world challenges
Nations must come together to “defeat the evil of terrorism” and “build a world that is freer, safer and better for generations to follow”, US President George Bush said today.
Mr Bush called for unity to tackle the world’s challenges as he tried to shed the caricature of a go-it-alone cowboy after leading the invasion of Iraq in March 2003 without the world body’s blessing.
The president also used his final speech to the United Nations’ General Assembly in New York to reassure world leaders that the US government was taking decisive action to restore stability to the financial markets which have seen unprecedented upheaval in recent days.
“Together we can confront and defeat the evil of terrorism,” he said.
“Together we can secure the almightiest gift of liberty and justice to millions who have not known it; and together we can build a world that is freer, safer and better for generations to follow.”
