'Protesters detained' after Olympic protest
An activist group says police have detained two foreigners who unfurled a Free Tibet banner on an Olympic billboard in the Chinese capital in the latest of a string of protests.
Kate Woznow of Students for a Free Tibet says the protest has taken place today at the headquarters of state-owned China Central Television building in east Beijing.
She says one Briton and one Australian-Canadian have been detained after climbing up part of the building – a landmark for its unusual shape – to unfurl the banner.
Wang Wenjie from the Beijing Public Security Bureau says he does not have any information on the protest and has asked for written questions before he can comment.
Today’s protest is the latest in a string of unauthorised demonstrations in Beijing by the student group since just before the Olympics started.
