An explosion today killed at least 15 people in the Somali capital, Moogadishu, witnesses said.

According to reports the bomb was hidden under a pile of garbage which exploded on a main road and at least 15 people were killed. Ten were women who had been cleaning the street.

Medina hospital spokesman Dahir Dhere said 35 wounded people were admitted. Most were women and children.

The attack early today follows the signing of a peace agreement last month that has fuelled power struggles within the transitional government and the Islamic insurgency it is fighting.
