Shot honeymoon groom to be flown home from Antigua

Shot bridegroom Benjamin Mullany is to be flown home to the UK from the intensive care unit where he is being treated on the Caribbean island of Antigua, police said today.

Sergeant William Holder said he will be transferred as soon as an air ambulance is available, at his family’s request.

However, he added that doctors on the island believed 31-year-old Mr Mullany was brain dead. He remains on life support with a fractured skull and broken leg.

He and his wife, Catherine, from Pontardawe, South Wales, were attacked early on Sunday at Cocos Hotel while honeymooning on the Caribbean island. She died instantly after being shot in the head.

No-one has been arrested.

Police have questioned three security guards as potential witnesses but none are considered suspects.

The motive appears to be robbery, but police have not ruled out other possibilities.
