Top mobster arrested

A top mobster belonging to a powerful Camorra crime clan was arrested as he was shopping in a designer clothes shop near Rome, Italian police said today.

Marco Morganti, of Avellino police, who made the arrest, said Adriano Graziano, known as "The Professor", was held as he was leaving the store in Valmontone, some 50km south-east of Rome.

Mr Morganti said the suspect was arrested late on Saturday on charges of criminal association, murder and extortion.

The Camorra is the regional equivalent of the Sicilian Mafia and has bloodied the streets in and around Naples for decades.

Graziano’s clan is known for a bloody feud with a rival clan that peaked in a 2002 ambush which left three women dead and several injured.
