Babies rescued from traffickers

Malaysian police say they have rescued four babies from suspected infant traffickers who bought newborns from poor mothers and sold them to childless couples.

A police official in southern Johor state say authorities busted the baby-trafficking ring when they raided a private clinic and four homes on Thursday.

He says 23 people have been detained, including people who bought the babies.

The official said today that others arrested included a gynaecologist and a government department employee who allegedly forged identification documents for the babies.
