UK: Bus driver slices off top deck

A bus driver today suffered a driving lesson disaster when he lost the roof of his double-decker.

The bus roof was sliced away when the driver attempted to pass under a low railway bridge in Four Ashes, near Wolverhampton.

Ironically, the destination sign on the white learner-labelled bus already read: “Sorry! Not in service.”

The bus, from Travel West Midlands, which recently changed its name to National Express West Midlands, was reportedly driven by a trainee, who was accompanied by an instructor and another driver in training.

British Transport Police attended the collision in Station Road at around 9am this morning, a Staffordshire Police spokeswoman said.

Mark Westwood, 41, who lives nearby, told the Express and Star: “I heard a loud bang, bang, bang. It was an unbelievable sight.”

Network Rail have been informed and there were no reports of any injuries, police said.
