The inquest into the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, faced double uncertainty tonight after a legal challenge reignited the row over paparazzi witnesses and strikes in France threatened to cripple proceedings.

Coroner Lord Justice Scott Baker ruled last week that the jury would hear written statements and transcripts of police interviews given by the photographers who pursued Diana to the scene of the crash rather than live evidence after they refused to attend.
