Israel must control all of Jerusalem forever, said former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, taking a stand against a key compromise that could seal an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal.

His comments yesterday, at times drowned out by the chants of a Muslim preacher, follow growing signs that Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is ready to share control of Jerusalem under a final peace settlement with the Palestinians.
