Bali bomb victims want international court trial

An Indonesian suspected of being a leader in the terror group blamed for the 2002 Bali nightclub bombings should stand trial in an international court, a group that represents families of British victims urged today.

Riduan Isamuddin, whose nom de guerre is Hambali, is one of the 14 “high value” terror suspects being held by the United States at the Guantanamo Bay US naval base.

He was transferred there last September after being held at secret CIA prisons abroad.

“Hambali should stand trial not in secret court ... it should be an international court,” Susanna Miller, spokeswoman for the United Kingdom Bali Bombing Victims Group, said on the sidelines of a terrorism victims conference at the Vienna-based Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe.

Miller also criticised the United States for not allowing Isamuddin consular access and only providing Indonesian authorities with “limited access” to transcripts of interviews with him instead of allowing them to talk to him directly.
