Postal worker revealed as £35m EuroMillions winner

The winner of the UK’s biggest lottery jackpot was revealed today as a mother-of-one who works in a Royal Mail sorting office.

British lottery operator Camelot launched a nationwide public appeal for the mystery winner to get in touch after they failed to come forward following the draw on Friday.

She was today revealed to be Angela Cunningham, who is in her 40s and lives with her 14-year-old son, John, in a modest flat.

Camelot refused to confirm the winner's identity or any other details about her this morning, in advance of a 10.30am press conference in Scotland.

Ms Cunningham, who paid £1.50 for a lucky dip ticket, did not know she had scooped the £35.4m (€52.2m) fortune until Monday.

The ticket was in her handbag and she only checked it when she realised the jackpot had gone unclaimed.

Ms Cunningham has reportedly told colleagues she will not be coming back to work. She earned about £16,000 (€23,000) working in an administration department, according to reports.

She wants to swap her two-bedroom flat in Scotland's East Kilbride for a luxury Italian villa, where her sister already lives.

According to reports, Ms Cunningham is separated from husband Gerry, who worked with her at the Glasgow sorting office, where he is transport manager.

The biggest EuroMillions jackpot to date was €115m, which was won by mother-of-six Dolores McNamara, from Limerick in July 2005.
