Floods spark New York travel chaos

International flights were delayed and thousands of US commuters were unable to get to work today as torrential rain flooded New York’s subways and rail lines.

The National Weather Service briefly posted a tornado warning for parts of the city and surrounding areas, including New Jersey, and fallen trees blocked streets in some neighbourhoods.
