One killed, three hurt in Swiss hotel shooting

One man was killed and at least three others injured when a gunman opened fire with an assault rifle in a Swiss hotel.

The man was subdued by police after the shooting yesterday evening in the northern city of Baden.

The man started shooting randomly as he approached the La Capella hotel and continued firing after entering the building.

Police said they were called at about 9.45pm (8.45pm Irish time). One man was killed and at least three others were injured, said Rudolf Woodtli, a spokesman for the Aarau cantonal (state) police.

He said police were investigating whether a fourth person might also have been hit and went individually to a hospital.

Police declined to disclose any information on the gunman’s identity. The motive was unknown.
