Another 36 people were injured in the accident on the Chengdu-Chongqing expressway this morning, Xinhua News Agency said.

Police said 46 of the vehicles were trucks and that many were overloaded and travelling too fast for the drivers to be able to brake safely in the fog, according to Xinhua.

It said the road was closed for three and a half hours.
