Missing British teacher found in bath of sand

Police believe a body found in a Japanese apartment is that of a missing British teacher, it was reported today.

Officials at the school where the woman worked as a language teacher reported her missing on Sunday, Japan’s largest daily newspaper Yomiuri said.

Police found the body yesterday evening in a bathtub filled with sand on the balcony of the apartment in Ichikawa, just east of Tokyo, the report said.

The apartment belongs to a man who is believed to be a boyfriend of the 22-year-old Briton, according to the report.

The police were searching for the man, it said.

Kyodo News agency and national daily Asahi carried similar reports.

None of the reports identified the woman by name, or mentioned how she might have died.

Police officials were not immediately available to confirm the reports.
