Tamil Tiger base bombed by air force

The Sri Lankan air force bombed a Tamil Tiger jungle base, killing at least eight rebels, including two senior guerrillas, a military spokesman said today.

Airstrikes were carried out by Kfir and MiG-27 aircraft on the base in Thoppigala yesterday, said air force Captain Ajantha Silva.

The Thoppigala base is considered one of the last major areas held by the Tamil Tiger rebels in the east, where Sri Lankan forces have carried out several ground and air attacks over the past year.
