Several buried as Rio buried hotel collapses - reports

The façade of a hotel in the Copacabana beach district of Rio de Janeiro collapsed this morning, burying several people on one of the city’s busiest avenues, local media reported.

According to Globo News TV, the façade of the Canada Hotel on Avenida Nossa Senhora de Copacabana collapsed on to the sidewalk burying a number of passers-by.

Reports said as many as 10 people may have been buried and two people may have been killed, but those numbers could not be immediately confirmed. The facade of the hotel was undergoing renovations before the collapse.
