Second Polish Cabinet member quits
Poland’s Interior Minister Ludwik Dorn resigned today, becoming the second member of Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski’s Cabinet to hand in his portfolio this week.
Dorn’s decision to leave his post as the nation’s top security official has been accepted, but he will maintain his job as deputy prime minister, government spokesman Jan Dziedziczak said, giving no explanation for Dorn’s decision.
The unexpected move comes only two days after Defence Minister Radek Sikorski quit his post, citing problems with the government.
Dorn’s departure raises questions about the stability of Kaczynski’s government, which has a high turnover in government posts.
A member of Kacyznski’s Law and Justice party, Dorn has run the Interior Ministry since shortly after the conservative party won elections in late 2005.
Since then, the Law and Justice-led government has had two prime ministers, five finance ministers, two treasury ministers and two foreign ministers.
