The heroes of the First World War have been remembered around the world on Armistice Day today.

A two-minute silence was held at 11am - the moment the guns fell silent this day 88 years ago.

US President George Bush laid a wreath at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National.

Mr Bush said: "Many of our veterans bare the scars of their service to our country. And we are a nation that will keep its commitments to those of have risked their lives for freedom. We do appreciate the service of those who wear our uniform."

In London, the UK's queen dedicated a memorial to New Zealand's servicemen and women.

Tony Blair was also in Hyde Park and praised those who've seen active duty.

And more than three hundred people gathered for a wreath-laying ceremony at the War Memorial in Dublin's Islandbridge.
