Israeli air force carries out strikes in southern Lebanon

The Israeli air force carried out strikes today near the village of Taibe in southern Lebanon despite an agreement to halt raids for 48 hours, the army said.

The air strikes are meant to protect ground forces operating in the area, and are not targeting anyone or anything specific, the army said.

Israel agreed to halt its air operations in Lebanon for two days after nearly 60 Lebanese civilians were killed in a strike yesterday.

Meanwhile Hezbollah guerrillas attacked an Israeli tank in southern Lebanon today, wounding three soldiers, the military said. The attack, with an anti-tank missile, occurred near the villages of Kila and Taibe near the Israel-Lebanon border, where Israeli ground forces have been fighting Hezbollah guerrillas for nearly two weeks. The three soldiers were lightly wounded.
