Suicide bomber hits coalition convoy

A suicide attacker today rammed an explosive-laden car into a coalition vehicle in Kandahar, Afghanistan, wounding some coalition soldiers and seven civilians, officials say.

Dawood Ahmadi, the spokesman for the governor of Kandahar, said two Canadian soldiers were wounded in the blast, as well as seven Afghan civilians who were strolling by.

The bomber died in the blast, Ahmadi said.

Major Scott Lundy, the spokesman for the coalition forces in Kandahar, said a coalition convoy was attacked by a suicide car bomber and that there were casualties among the soldiers in one of the vehicles. He refused to disclose the nationality or the numbers of troops injured.

An eyewitness, Haji Agha, said a military helicopter landed and took the injured soldiers.
