Russian president Vladimir Putin today urged Iran to accept an international package of incentives aimed at defusing the stand-off over Tehran’s nuclear programme.

“We would really like Iran to accept the proposals of the partners,” said Putin, referring to a package put forward by six UN powers: the United States, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany.
