Terror suspect reveals location of Ken Bigley's body

The decapitated body of British engineer Kenneth Bigley is buried in a ditch at an entrance to the city of Fallujah in Iraq, the lawyer of a suspected al-Qaida militant who allegedly ordered Mr Bigley’s death said on Saturday.

The ditch is about 50 yards from an insurgent check point on the road from Nuamiya village, lawyer Osman Karahan said.

“We are following up the claims, as we have pursued every possible lead whether or not the information is likely to prove accurate,” a spokesman for the British Foreign Office said in London, speaking on condition of anonymity in keeping with government policy.

The Ministry of Defence added that British forces had no plans to look for the body.

Karahan, lawyer for suspected al Qaida militant Loa’I Mohammed Haj Bakr al-Saqa, revealed the burial place of Mr Bigley’s body during a news conference at his office in Istanbul.

He said his client was the president of an informal court that sentenced Mr Bigley to death in Iraq in accordance with Islamic Sharia law. Karahan did not say whether al-Saqa actually carried out the sentence.

“He took the decision. We have no information on the execution of the sentence. My client has not made an announcement on that,” he said.

Ken Bigley, 62, was kidnapped on September 16, 2004, with two American co-workers from Gulf Services Co. Both Americans were beheaded, and Mr Bigley’s decapitation was confirmed on October 10, 2004.
