Suspected Taliban militants with explosives strapped to their bodies blew themselves up in the southern Afghan city of Kandahar today after they were challenged by police.

No other deaths or injuries were reported in the blasts, that occurred on a main street in the city, said provincial Governor Asadullah Khalid. He said the attackers had been on foot.
