Israel on high alert after terror warning
Israeli police and rescue teams are on high alert over fears Palestinian militants were planning to carry out an attack.
Israeli security blocked traffic both ways on two main roads in central Israel today, witnesses said.
On the main Jerusalem-to-Tel Aviv highway, police stopped a suspicious car and found an explosives belt inside that was apparently meant for an attack, Army Radio reported.
Ambulances responded to the scene, fearing the occupants would try to detonate the explosives.
Security forces were trying to arrest the people inside the car, Israel Radio said.
Israeli security was looking for another car that was apparently involved in an attempted attack.
Earlier, Israeli police increased forces throughout Jerusalem, setting up roadblocks and detaining suspicious people, said police spokesman Shmuel Ben-Ruby.
The alert in Jerusalem was later lowered, Israeli radio stations said.
