Austria: Police chase kangaroo through snow
Police in southern Austria today chased a kangaroo through the snow after the animal jumped a fence and decided to go walkabout in the wintery surroundings.
But the animal – discovered on a country road about three miles outside the town of St Veit in the province of Carinthia – evaded police capture, local police officer Joerg Fortin said.
In the end, the two-legged escapee was caught after a local vet managed to sedate it.
The year-old kangaroo was treated for light injuries, Fortin said.
Tourists who visit the alpine country are able to buy T-shirts with the slogan “There are no kangaroos in Austria.”
