There was no danger of tsunami.

The quake struck in the Banda Sea, about 120 miles south of Ambon city, the USGC said on its website.

It occurred at a depth of 212 miles. The

Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said no destructive tsunami threat existed.

There were not immediate reports of damage or injuries.

Ambon is about 1,600 miles east of the Indonesian capital, Jakarta.

Indonesia, the world’s largest archipelago, is prone to seismic upheaval because of its location atop a volcanically active region known as the Pacific “Ring of Fire.”
