Gunmen attack cars owned by Iraqi president
Gunmen have attacked cars owned by Iraqi president Jalal Talabani, wounding four of his bodyguards, police said. The president was not in any of the cars when the attack occurred.
The attack took place south of Tuz Khormato, 55 miles south of Kirkuk, said Police Captain Farhard Talabani. He added that four of Talabani’s bodyguards were wounded and were being treated in a Kirkuk hospital.
The police officer said the cars were returning from Kurdistan to Baghdad when the attack happened.
The attack comes three days after environment minister Narmin Othman escaped an assassination attempt when gunmen attacked her convoy north of Baghdad, wounding three bodyguards.
