Student axed to death in UK racial attack

An A-Level student was axed to death in a race attack, British police said today.

Anthony Walker, an 18-year-old black man, had his head split in the “vicious and unprovoked attack” in a park near his home in Huyton, Liverpool, last night.

Just minutes before, he had been subjected to a “torrent of racial abuse” by a man in a hooded top as he waited for a bus with his girlfriend and cousin, both 17.

A murder inquiry was launched today and a major manhunt was under way.

Merseyside Police assistant chief constable Bernard Lawson said: “What we are dealing with here is an unprovoked and vicious attack on a young black man which we believe to be racially motivated.

“Anthony was waiting for a bus with his girlfriend and cousin when they were subjected to a torrent of racial abuse.

“They did not retaliate, but left to go to another bus stop.

“They were followed into McGoldrick Park and as they left the park the vicious attack took place.

“This was a despicable act and we’re absolutely determined to find the people responsible.”
