Two Italians dead, four missing in Egypt blasts

Italy’s Foreign Ministry said today that two Italians – husband and wife - have been confirmed dead in the last week’s Sharm el-Sheikh attacks, while four others who remained missing.

Daniela Maiorana was confirmed dead this morning, two days after her husband Sebastiano Conti had been identified. Conti’s brother and the brother’s girlfriend were among the missing. The four were travelling together.

Also missing were two sisters, in their 20s, from southern Italy, who were on holiday.

The ministry said there were “grave concerns” over the fate of the four, who were believed to be near the sites hit by the terrorists.

The blasts on Saturday levelled the reception area of a luxury hotel in Sharm el-Sheikh’s popular Naama Bay district and ripped apart a coffee house crowded with Egyptians in the nearby Old Market.

Most Italian tourists who were injured in the attacks have returned home.
