Passengers tell of terror at tube station

Passengers evacuated from Warren Street tube station spoke of their terror today.

Sofiane Mohellebi, a French Muslim who was on the train involved, though not in the carriage, said: “There was a smell like wires or tyres, but it wasn’t the train making the burning smell.

“People were screaming and panicking but we managed to get off the train,” he added.

Tammie Landau said she had got on the Victoria Line train at Oxford Circus, heading to Euston.

“We managed to get through the train to the end of it, then were able to get off it. By the time I was out I was very scared.”

Liam Rodgers, a barman at the Prince of Wales’ Feathers, said: “At 12.55pm, all the emergency services came round.

“They told us to keep the people inside the bar, and keep them safe, then at 1.15pm they came in and evacuated us.”

Mr Rodgers, from Mansfield, Notts added: “I looked out from an upstairs window but it all seemed very calm, I didn’t see anybody rushing away, and there was no smoke coming out of the station.”

Another man, who declined to give his name, said: “It’s become part of life, I’m very calm about it. They want to terrorise us, so we must not let them.”

Police put up cordons around Warren Street station and office workers stood behind them to observe what was happening.
